Music: Rite of Spring, Igor STRAVINSKY
All River Red was premiered in 2001. Beijing Theatre Academy.
STRAVINSKY's Rite of Spring was premiered in 1913, signifying the dawn of a new era in music. This music has inspired many western choreographers, and in 2000, BeijingDance/LDTX's choreographers offered their unique version, All River Red, with a Chinese touch. The work reflects the development of contemporary arts in 20th century China against all odds, and shows not so much a comfortable fusion of East- meets- West, but a direct and violent confrontation between those adhering to tradition and those aspiring to innovation.
“The Choreographer created a work of profound cultural significance, and presented the work to us with such a calmness and ease. This artistry of sublime stuns us.” --DanceMagazine
