Quadrille is curated by Willy TSAO, artistic director of BeijingDance/LDTX.
The program is of lecture and dance combination format to take the audience
into the mysterious and magnificent world of modern dance.
The three main attributes of modern dance: Preserving personality, encouraging
creativity and following current times, are quite different from our usual perspectives
on dance enjoyment, as lots of audience would say they don’t understand what
this modern dance is trying to say, don’t understand. Quadrille leverages on four
different channels to lead the audience into the enjoyment of modern dance. From
"body resonance", "spiritual perception", "logical reading" to "Worldly traveling",
with the dancers’ performance of excerpts of Arc, Three Blank, Bird Song and Plaza
Dance 1.0, demonstrating the four different channels heading into the difference dance scenary.

Arc (excerpt)
Arc may be static curved line, and can also be a kaleidoscopic
tracks of life. It may appear as if it is deviating from one's path

Three Blank Episodes
Through huddling of bodies, we see the vastness in space; through
flowing of energy, we sense the stillness of time, discovering the pureness.
This section reflects choreographer’s creative thinking, re-examining the
relationship between body movements and space, and time and the substance within.

Bird song
Bird Song was first performed by the City Contemporary DanceCompany
(CCDC) in 1990, and was re-staged by Youth Dance Company of the
Beijing Dance Academy Youth Group in 1992. In that same year, it became
the debut performance of the Guangdong Experimental Modern Dance
Group. The piece consists of six chapters: Song of the Canyon, Song of
the Mountain, ong of the Plains, Song of the River, Song of the Waterfall
and ong of the Sky. Bird Song, under the imagery approach, explores the
journey of mankind, going from the realm of necessity to freedom.
