LI Han-zhong

 Born in Yunnan Province, LI studied at the Beijing Dance Academy Chinese Ethnic 

Dance Department and received a degree in education in 1991. He joined the Guangdong 

Modern Dance Company upon graduation. In 1999, he became the Executive Artistic 

Director for Beijing Modern Dance Company. LI then co-founded BeijingDance/LDTX 

with Willy TSAO in 2005 and served as the executive artistic director till 2010. He has 

collaborated with his wife, MA Bo, to create numerous major dance works since joining 

the Guangdong Modern Dance Company.Works include: Undetermined Domain, All River Red, 

Rear Light, Cold Arrow, The Call of the Wild, The Bed Story, Thirteen Singletons, 

The Big Send Off, The Long March: One Out of Ten to Live.

MA Bo

Born in Mizhi of Shaanxi Province. MA graduated from the Beijing Dance Academy in 1991, 

and became teacher of the Academy for two years. She joined Guangdong Modern Dance 

Company in 1993, and then Beijing Modern Dance Company in 1999. In 2005, she became 

a founding member for BeijingDance/LDTX and served as the company’s dancer, choreographer 

and executive artistic director. MA’s creative works contemplate deeply with contemporary issues. 

She has collaborated often with husband LI Han-zhong.Works include: Undetermined Domain, 

All River Red, Rear Light, Cold Arrow, The Long March: One Out of Ten to Live, Rehearsal & Performances, 

Between Line, Sorrowful Song, Enigma.

LI & MA’s collaborative works have been presented throughout Europe, America and Asia in more than 20 

countries and regions. Their major works, All River Red, has been staged for more than 300 times, 

Rear Light has been performed at the New York Joyce Theater. They have also been invited to create 

works for various international arts organizations, including Australia’s Adelaide College of the Arts, 

Taiwan’s Cloud Gate Dance Company and American Dance Festival.In 2005, they began on major 

Environment productions with LI as director and MA as dance choreographer and executive director.

 Major productions include: Song of Eternal Sorrow, Chongqing·1949, Yan'an Baohuyuan, The Xi'an Incident, Luxiang Shexi.
