...Songs Are Sung
The 7th Guangdong Modern Dance Festival
Janis Claxton created ...songs are sung for her Edinburgh based company Janis Claxton Dance in 2009 for 6 female dancers accompanied by the Edinburgh String Quartet. In 2009, she visited China on a British Council Connections Through Culture Grant. Upon the invitation from LDTX and the support from the Scottish Arts Council, Claxton returned to Beijing to remount the piece for LDTX. The work is set to Gorecki’s String Quartet No. 3, inspired by a poem of Velimir Khlebnikov that reads 'When horses die, they breathe/When grasses die, they wither/When suns die, they go out/When people die, they sing songs'.

Between Lines
The 7th Guangdong Modern Dance Festival
In this lyrical performance, choreographic duo, Li Hanzhong and Ma Bo have created a new kind of spiritual score, without forsaking their uniquely strong, sleek, and defiant style. Framed by a fantastic stage design comprising a heavy metal Tree of Life, a Styx of overflowing LED lights, and rising lanterns illuminating the souls in the darkness. It is a poem about Mother Nature, urbanity and human kind.
