Battery Dance Company has represented the U.S. overseas in more than 30 countries and has developed cultural exchange programs in the realm of dance and the performing arts. Battery Dance Company has built partnerships with dance artists, musicians, arts managers, arts institutions, schools and other dance companies to foster cultural outreach and mutual understanding. Battery Dance Company¡¯s international mission is fueled by the belief that dancers can span geographic, linguistic and cultural borders through bilateral exchange, sharing inspiration and advancing mutual understanding among their communities, aspiring to transcend political and social ills.

"Shell Games"

In this Shell Game, a play in which choreography substitutes for dialogue, the performers don and shed wire mesh body sculptures that serve as wombs, carapaces or psychological armor, drawing forth images both intimate and apocalyptic.

"Notebooks"

Notebooks draws inspiration from diverse sources such as Arabic calligraphy and the notebooks of 20th Century French painter Georges Braque.

"I'll Take You There"

Inspired by the antics of the high school students with whom Battery Dance Company works in New York City public schools, I¡¯ll Take You There provoked Bettina Schulte, dance critic of Germany¡¯s Badische Zeitung, to rave: ¡°One doesn¡¯t often see dance so casual and funny. Simply gorgeous!¡±

¡°Moonbeam¡±
Choreography: Jonathan Hollander
Music: Clarinet Concerto by Aaron Copland
Moonbeam was first created in Ahmedabad, India on commission from the National Institute of Design to display costumes designed by Sandhya Raman were reminiscent of ancient Moghul robes. The work was expanded for the entire company for BDC¡¯s tours of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Asia in 2008.
