The first edition of Dynamic Dance Dialogue is scheduled from 6 to 9 April 2023 at Studio Theatre of Hong Kong Cultural Centre. The theme of the programming is “Hong Kong-Beijing Dance Exchange” which aims at fostering communication between dance talents in the two cities and to present the distinctive choreographies to Hong Kong audiences.

With Willy TSAO as Artistic Director, DDD 2023 will present three programmes: Free Man From The South, a new work choreographed by Willy TSAO and performed by BeijingDance/LDTX; the Hong Kong version of Bodily Reminiscence, a popular dance work by Beijing's next-generation artist XU Yiming which will be performed by Hong Kong dancers;  and HK-BJ Dance Showcase to present 6 distinctive short choreographies by artists from Hong Kong and Beijing.

FREE MAN FROM THE SOUTH

Free Man From The South is the latest choreography by Willy TSAO. Hailing from the poems of LI Bai, a Chinese poet in the Tang Dynasty, the work does not recount the poet’s life or his emotions. Instead, it applies the form of contemporary dance theatre to explore the imagery behind the verses.

BODILY REMINISCENCE

Glean the memories of those years and let the age of awakening be stirred. I am in charge of my own body! Born under the red flags and grew up in the wind of spring, the tide-player is still floating through the torrents of times. This is a process of self-reinvention and self-transformation, and it is a reflection on the volatility and fickleness of the era. Individuality and commonness are colliding, crises and opportunities are coexisting, alienation and rebellion are quietly infusing into the unstoppable call for a common fate.

A special programme that features 6 short dance works by choreographers from Hong Kong and Beijing, showcasing the diverse styles of dance creativity of the two cities.
